France to launch used electric vehicle subsidies in September

A new subsidy program for used electric vehicles is scheduled to launch in France on September 1, 2026. Funded through Energy Savings Certificates (CEE), the initiative aims to bolster energy sovereignty and accelerate decarbonization.

For most individual buyers, the base subsidy is expected to be approximately 337 euros per vehicle. However, higher amounts may be available for specific professionals, such as home care services and taxi drivers, through the use of multiplier coefficients. To qualify, the vehicle must be 100% electric, first registered in France between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2023, and must be purchased or leased through an automotive professional.

Additional requirements include that the battery must maintain at least 80% of its original capacity and the vehicle must be kept for at least three years. Experts, including Romain Ryon of Mobilee, have noted that the base amount may be relatively modest for many budgets.
