France to protect critical infrastructure from Russian hybrid threats
French President Emmanuel Macron has ordered the development of a protection plan for critical infrastructure and defense industry facilities following an intensification of Russian hybrid threats against France and Europe. Macron stated that recent hybrid activities, which include cyberattacks, drone threats, and interference in airspace, are intended to intimidate European nations and undermine support for Ukraine.
During a press conference, Macron emphasized that supporting Ukraine is essential to the security of the entire European continent. He noted that the nature of these hostile actions is evolving, citing incidents involving frigates and airports as examples of the shifting threat landscape.
In addition to the security situation in Europe, Macron addressed potential energy security risks stemming from instability in the Middle East. He highlighted concerns regarding the disruption of maritime routes, specifically the Strait of Hormuz, noting that while measures like ship escorts are being considered, a resolution likely depends on diplomatic agreements between Iran and the United States.
