France to reimburse reusable menstrual products

Starting October 1, 2026, the French health insurance system (Assurance Maladie) will begin reimbursing certain reusable menstrual products, specifically menstrual cups and period underwear. This measure, stemming from the 2024 Social Security Financing Act, aims to combat menstrual poverty and facilitate access to sustainable hygiene alternatives.

Eligibility is limited to two specific groups: all insured individuals under the age of 26, and beneficiaries of the Complémentaire santé solidaire (C2S), regardless of age. To qualify for reimbursement, products must be purchased at a pharmacy and meet specific regulatory criteria. The coverage is subject to an annual limit of two products per person.
