France to replace traditional ATMs with 7,000 new Cash Services machines by 2026

By the end of 2026, France's major banks – BNP Paribas, Société Générale, Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale and CIC – will retire their traditional cash‑dispensing machines and install about 7,000 next‑generation “Cash Services” ATMs. The rollout, coordinated by the Société des Services Fiduciaires (2SF), will give the new devices a uniform white design and smart, personalized interfaces that recognize the cardholder on insertion.

The shift follows a recent decline in conventional ATMs: the Comité National des Moyens de Paiement reported a loss of 1,774 machines in 2025, a 4.2 % drop. Despite the reduction, 99.8 % of the French population remains within a fifteen‑minute walk of a cash point. Access is increasingly provided through private points of withdrawal in shops and other merchants, which are expected to rise from 28,479 in 2024 to 30,057 in 2025. These private locations, such as BNP Paribas’ Nickel points and Crédit Mutuel’s relay points, operate during merchants’ opening hours.
