France’s traffic authority Bison Futé has issued a red‑level alert for the weekend of 7 – 10 August 2026, describing it as one of the most congested periods of the summer. Both departures and returns are expected to be intense, with Saturday 8 August identified as the peak day. Major routes to avoid include the A7 (Lyon‑Orange) throughout the day, the A9 (Spain‑Narbonne) especially between 11 h and 20 h, the A10 (Poitiers‑Bordeaux) from 11 h to 19 h, and the A6 and A10 in Île‑de‑France during the morning rush.
