France unemployment rises 0.8% in Q2 2026

The number of jobseekers without any activity (category A) registered with France Travail rose 0.8 % in the second quarter of 2026, reaching 3.323 million after a 1.2 % drop three months earlier. Corrected data that remove automatic RSA enrolments and non‑radiations show a 0.2 % decline for the quarter, while the broader count of jobseekers in categories A, B and C increased 1.3 % to 5.801 million.

Youth unemployment showed a sharper increase, up 5.9 % in category A and 6.3 % across all categories year‑on‑year. The Dares also reported that new registrants awaiting orientation fell to 447,700, while those placed on a social pathway grew to 540,600.

Regionally, Auvergne‑Rhône‑Alpes recorded 725,140 registered jobseekers, a 1 % rise over the previous quarter, with the highest departmental gains in Ain (+1.8 %) and Rhône (+1.7 %). Seniors over 50 accounted for about 1.5 million jobseekers, highlighting a persistent challenge for older workers in the French labour market.
