France updates influenza vaccination rules and prescription requirements
New regulations for the 2026-2027 influenza vaccination season in France have introduced mandatory prescriptions for all flu vaccines as of July 10, 2026. While previously some groups could be vaccinated without an order, a prescription is now required from authorized professionals, including doctors, midwives, pharmacists, nurses, or third-year medical and pharmacy students.
For targeted populations, the vaccine remains 100% covered by Assurance Maladie. The campaign is scheduled to begin on October 13.
Regarding healthcare workers in nursing homes (Ehpad), there is ongoing debate concerning vaccination requirements. Although the Haute Autorité de santé (HAS) issued a favorable opinion on July 20, 2026, regarding mandatory vaccination for professionals in contact with the elderly, this recommendation does not constitute a legally enforceable obligation unless a specific text is officially adopted and enacted into law.
