France vehicle fleet aging and in declining condition, study shows
A study by the automotive diagnostic company Carly reveals that the average age of vehicles in circulation in France is increasing, leading to a decline in overall vehicle condition.
According to the 2025 diagnostic data, older vehicles face significantly higher risks. Specifically, cars manufactured before the year 2000 exhibit nearly twice as many critical defects as 2025 models. These older vehicles are more prone to both mechanical and electronic failures.
The study also notes that vehicle condition varies across different French departments due to local factors, including climate, infrastructure, traffic patterns, and individual usage habits.
