France vows no Russian fuel will reach domestic gas stations

The French government has stated that Russian-origin fuel will not reach French gas stations, despite a recent agreement between Washington and Moscow intended to increase diesel supply and moderate prices. Government spokesperson and Energy Minister Maud Bregeon emphasized that France utilizes mechanisms to verify the traceability of petroleum products, whether they originate directly from Russia, pass through third countries, or are refined outside Russian territory.

Bregeon maintained that the U.S.-Russia agreement does not alter European Union sanctions against Moscow due to the war in Ukraine. To manage domestic supply and alleviate costs, the French government plans to release 10 million units from its strategic diesel reserves over a three-month period. This operation is expected to reduce prices by 12 to 18 cents per liter in the coming weeks. The government intends to monitor distributor margins to ensure these savings are passed on to consumers.
