France faces significant water loss, with approximately 20% of pumped and treated water leaking from its 980,000 km potable water network due to aging pipes and ground movement.
To combat these losses, companies are deploying advanced detection technologies. Suez has developed IAcoustic, an artificial intelligence-driven tool paired with acoustic sensors. This technology reportedly detects up to 70% more leaks and can accelerate detection times by one and a half to two months. Suez plans to deploy this solution across its 100,000 km network in metropolitan France.
Other methods include the use of acoustic sensors by firms like Ax’Eau to track sound waves generated by escaping water. Additionally, companies such as Veolia and Les Dogs des Eaux utilize specially trained dogs to identify chlorine odors, providing an alternative detection method when acoustic monitoring is not feasible.
