France wins gold in mixed 4x100m medley relay at European Championships

The French mixed 4x100m medley relay team secured a gold medal at the European Swimming Championships held in Saint-Denis. The victory was highlighted by a strategic decision to lead with a female swimmer, Mary-Ambre Moluh, who set a new European record in her 100m leg despite facing significant pressure and trailing the field during her heat.

Following Moluh, Carl Aitkaci and Maxime Grousset performed the intermediate legs. Grousset, a double world champion, executed a major comeback to provide Marie Wattel with a three-second lead. Wattel successfully defended this advantage against competition from the Netherlands to secure the win.

The French Pierre de Coubertin Committee noted that the team's success demonstrates the strategic importance and equality inherent in mixed-gender sporting events. The competition is being hosted at the Olympic Aquatics Centre, part of the infrastructure legacy from the Paris 2024 Games.
