France women's basketball defeats Hungary 99-53 in World Cup opener

The French women's national basketball team opened their 2026 World Cup campaign with a dominant 99-53 victory over Hungary in Berlin. Despite a limited preparation period due to WNBA schedules, the Olympic silver medalists controlled the game from an early stage.

Dominique Malonga led the scoring with a double-double, recording 17 points and 10 rebounds. Gabby Williams also performed strongly in her first match as captain, contributing 17 points. The French defense was particularly effective, leading to a 41-point advantage by halftime.

Head coach Jean-Aimé Toupane expressed satisfaction with the win but noted that the team needs to improve their time management and avoid playing too hastily. France is scheduled to face South Korea in their next match.
