France women's basketball team faces injury setbacks ahead of World Cup

The French women's national basketball team faces roster challenges ahead of the 2026 World Cup in Berlin. Veteran player Alexia Chery has been forced to withdraw from the competition following a thigh injury sustained during training. Medical examinations at INSEP confirmed her unavailability for the remainder of the preparation period.

Chery's absence follows the earlier withdrawal of Alicia Tournebize, leaving the team short of experienced interior players. To bolster the squad, the French Basketball Federation has officially named eight WNBA players to the roster, including Gabby Williams, Marine Johannès, and Dominique Malonga. Newcomer Carla Leite has also been selected for her first international competition.

While some players like Leïla Lacan will join the group in Paris, others will travel directly to Berlin. The coaching staff, led by Jean-Aimé Toupane, must now determine how to fill the remaining spots to ensure a competitive frontcourt.
