France workplace mental health improves, young workers stay vulnerable
A large IFOP survey conducted for Moka, Boston Consulting Group and the GHU Paris Psychiatrie & Neurosciences in January 2026 interviewed 2,000 French employees. The average WHO‑5 mental‑wellbeing score rose to 62.8 / 100, up three points from the previous year, and 74 % now report a "good" level of mental health, a four‑point increase.
Despite the overall rise, one in four workers remains in psychological distress. Sleep problems fell from 55 % to 48 %, while chronic fatigue and chronic stress showed modest declines. Women still experience twice the rate of chronic stress as men (38 % vs 25 %). Young employees are the most affected group: 46 % of those aged 18‑24 report chronic stress, 55 % face concentration difficulties, and 76 % have experienced a work‑related mental‑health issue. The study highlights proximity management as the primary lever for reducing psychosocial risks, while noting a resurgence of taboos around mental‑health discussions.
