France's 2026 summer vacation trends: longer stays, higher budgets

Vacances pour tous, the historic French holiday‑camp organization, released its preview of summer 2026 bookings. The average family budget for a stay rose to €1,061, up from €998 in 2025, driven by longer trips – the mean duration increased to 9.57 days from 9.06 – and a higher share of outings funded by collective aid. In the current season, 59.2 % of children benefit from municipal, departmental or CAF support, while individually funded registrations fell slightly.

Travelers are favoring nature‑focused locations away from major tourist hubs. The top‑ranked destinations are Xonrupt‑Longemer (Vosges), Agde (Hérault), Saint‑Jean‑de‑Luz (Pyrénées‑Atlantiques), Autrans (Isère) and Cassen (Landes). The preferred regions overall are the Vosges, Aveyron, Landes, Haute‑Savoy and Hérault, reflecting a demand for authentic mountain, countryside and seaside experiences. To meet growing ecological awareness, 33 of the organization’s centres hold the European Ecolabel, confirming a commitment to environmental responsibility.
