France's Agirc-Arrco pension suspension impacts 100,000 retirees
An administrative malfunction in the Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension scheme led to the suspension of payments for roughly 100,000 retirees, mainly survivors' benefits and expatriates. The error, caused by missing life certificates, non‑remarriage proofs or data mismatches with the tax authority, could represent a potential loss of about €850 million for the affected pensioners. By early June 2025, 30,000 cases had been regularised, while the remaining dossiers await manual review.
The incident highlights broader risks of delayed or incomplete retirement filings. Pensioners are advised to submit their retirement request about five months before the intended start date, verify their career records on the Info‑retraite portal, and ensure all required documents—such as identity papers, unemployment attestations, and foreign‑work records—are provided. Failure to do so can postpone the first pension payment, leaving retirees without income during the transition period.
