France's camping sector anticipates 28 million summer tourists

The French outdoor holiday market expects around 28 million people to stay at campsites, caravan parks or mobile‑home sites this summer, according to the Fédération nationale de l’Hôtellerie de Plein Air (FNHPA). More than half of all paid holiday bookings between 1 July and 30 September are predicted to be for camping, with French visitors accounting for roughly 70 % of campsite customers and the remaining 30 % coming mainly from the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and the United Kingdom.

Reservations are almost unchanged from the previous year (+1 %), despite an uncertain international context and persistent inflation. Prices vary widely: a mobile‑home for four to six people can cost €500–€3,000 per week in five‑star campsites, while bare pitches for tents, caravans or vans range from €15 to €80 per night and can be booked on a nightly basis. The sector now offers about 840 000 pitches, of which 49 % are bare sites (approximately 410 000). Demand for these bare pitches rose 9.4 % in 2025, reflecting growing interest among budget‑conscious travellers.
