France's tax authority to refund 12.6 million households in July 2026

The French Direction générale des Finances publiques (DGFiP) will carry out two rounds of automatic refunds on 24 July and 31 July 2026. About 12.6 million households that over‑paid income tax through the 2025 prélèvement à la source, or that are entitled to credits or reductions, will receive a credit – the average amount quoted by officials is €1,057.

Refunds will be credited directly to the bank account previously reported to the tax administration; households without a registered account will be sent a cheque by post. No action is required from taxpayers.

The government has warned that scammers may try to exploit the refund period with phishing emails, SMS or calls claiming a “trop‑perçu”. Victims are urged not to provide personal or banking details and to verify that any communication comes from the official “DGFIP FINANCES PUBLIQUES” source.
