France lifts Livret A interest rate to 1.7% from August 1 2026

On 15 July 2026 French Economy Minister Roland Lescure announced that the regulated savings account Livret A will see its rate rise from 1.5 % to 1.7 % on 1 August 2026. The same increase applies to the Livret de développement durable et solidaire (LDDS). The Livret d’épargne populaire (LEP) will keep its higher rate at 2.5 %. The change follows a rebound in inflation linked to recent Middle‑East tensions and reflects the statutory formula that combines six‑month inflation and short‑term inter‑bank rates. It is the first upward adjustment since early 2023. About 58 million French households hold Livret A accounts, with total balances of roughly €444.6 billion, which help finance social‑housing projects through the Caisse des Dépôts. While the modest rise improves the attractiveness of the Livret A, life‑insurance contracts continue to offer higher returns and remain a popular alternative for longer‑term savings.
