France's Livret A Savings Rate Set to Rise to Up to 1.8% in August

French Economy Minister Roland Lescure confirmed that the interest rate on the Livret A savings account will be increased, with a new rate expected to range between 1.6% and 1.8% starting 1 August. The adjustment follows a proposal from the Bank of France governor and ends a period of declining rates that saw the Livret A fall from 3% to 1.5% in February 2025.

The Livret A holds about €444.6 billion across roughly 58 million accounts, making the change relevant for a large pool of French savers. While the rise is modest, it is presented as “good news for French savings” despite inflation running at 2.4% in May. Analysts note that returns on regulated crypto platforms under the EU MiCA framework often exceed 4%‑8%, limiting the Livret A’s competitiveness.

The announced hike is part of routine adjustments that consider inflation, the banking sector’s outlook, and the broader savings environment in France.
