France's new light‑green World Cup jersey sells out amid fan frenzy

The French Football Federation, in partnership with Nike, unveiled a light‑green away kit for the 2026 World Cup, citing the oxidised copper hue of the Statue of Liberty as inspiration. Priced between €110 and €185 for the player version, the jersey quickly became a bestseller.

Demand outstripped supply: the kit vanished from Nike’s official store and partner retailers within days. Intersport, the federation’s main partner, reported selling 33,000 units in a single week, after which stocks were exhausted again. Some fans turned to counterfeit copies, with prices as low as €20. A brief restock later in the week also sold out within a day, leaving many supporters uncertain about obtaining an authentic jersey before the tournament’s conclusion on July 19.

The episode highlights the commercial power of national team apparel and the challenges of meeting sudden spikes in consumer demand during major sporting events.
