France's Social Leasing Scheme for Electric Cars Returns in July 2026

French Economy Minister Roland Lescure announced that the social leasing program for electric vehicles will resume on 16 July 2026. The scheme, designed for low‑income households, offers electric cars on long‑term leases at around €100‑€200 per month, enabling tens of thousands of families to access greener transport.

The initiative follows a 2024‑2025 pilot that placed about 50 000 vehicles in the hands of modest‑income drivers. It aims to boost electric‑car adoption as sales rose to 241 568 units in the first half of 2026, representing 28 % of new car sales. Eligibility will be based on income thresholds, residence in France, a valid driver's licence and other standard criteria.

By subsidising a portion of the lease cost, the government seeks to alleviate mobility costs for households strained by rising fuel prices while accelerating the transition to electric mobility.
