Francesca Albanese claims defamation over Hamas spokesperson label

UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese has accused UN Watch Executive Director Hillel Neuer of “outright defamation” following his characterization of her as “Hamas’s de facto spokesperson.” In a response on the social media platform X, Albanese called for the platform's owner, Elon Musk, to censor the criticism.

Hillel Neuer has rejected the claims, stating that “truth is an absolute defense” and challenging Albanese to pursue legal action. Neuer released several evidentiary exhibits to support his position, including Albanese’s past statements regarding the October 7 massacre, her descriptions of Hamas as a political force that provides public services, and instances where Hamas officials have publicly praised her UN reports.
