Francesco Flaccovio, prominent Palermo publisher, dies

Francesco Flaccovio, a prominent publisher and bookseller from Palermo, has passed away. He was the heir to a historic family publishing and bookselling legacy in Sicily.

Flaccovio, along with his brother Sergio—who died only a few months ago—had managed the family business inherited from their father, Salvatore Fausto. The family is noted for its deep roots in Palermo's cultural history; notably, Salvatore Fausto was the first to receive the manuscript of ‘Il Gattopardo’ by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa in 1956.

Local officials and cultural institutions have expressed condolences. Palermo Mayor Roberto Lagalla described Flaccovio as a reference figure for the city's culture. The publishing house Sellerio also honored his memory, noting the family's long-standing importance to the community and their commitment to local youth through initiatives like Spazio Flaccovio.
