Francesco Longino discharged after brutal beating in Grumo Nevano

Seventy‑year‑old pensioner Francesco Longino was severely beaten while trying to calm a dispute in Grumo Nevano, near Naples. He was hospitalized, underwent three CT scans and remained in intensive care before being released to continue a long rehabilitation. The victim still suffers facial bruising, loss of teeth and limited speech.

The 18‑year‑old attacker, arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide, remains in custody. From prison he issued an apology, urging other youths not to repeat his actions. Longino’s son Giuseppe described his father’s condition, thanked God and Padre Pio, and called for justice. Deputy Francesco Emilio Borrelli visited the victim and asked the assailants to apologize in person.

Police say the assault began after a ball thrown by a group of teenagers shattered a window at a senior citizens’ centre, sparking the violent episode.
