Birmingham European Athletics: Derkach wins gold in triple jump

Italy achieved significant success at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. Dariya Derkach won the gold medal in the women's triple jump with a personal best of 14.60 meters, marking Italy's third gold of the competition.

In the men's 800 meters, Francesco Pernici secured a place in the final after a strong semifinal performance of 1:43.84. In the final, Pernici finished in fifth place, just six hundredths of a second away from the bronze medal, in a race won by Ireland's Mark English.

The 200 meters saw strong Italian representation in the final. Fausto Desalu won his semifinal with a time of 20.08 seconds, while newcomer Filippo Dezza qualified via the repechage with a time of 20.35 seconds. Additionally, Alessandro Sibilio secured his place in the 400m hurdles final.
