Francis Atwoli claims Edwin Sifuna is unprepared for 2027 presidency

Francis Atwoli, Secretary General of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU), has stated that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is not prepared for a presidential bid in the 2027 General Election. Speaking on Citizen TV, Atwoli characterized recent political gatherings, such as the Linda Mwananchi rally at Nairobi’s Jacaranda Grounds, as “a passing cloud” rather than evidence of a functional nationwide political machine.

Atwoli argued that a successful presidential campaign requires extensive national structures, professional technical benches, and support from county governors and the business community. He contrasted Sifuna’s approach with that of President William Ruto, noting that Ruto’s 2022 victory was driven by professionalism and established numbers.

Furthermore, Atwoli cautioned Sifuna against attempting to model his fundraising after American political methods, suggesting that small-scale market contributions are insufficient for a Kenyan presidential campaign. He emphasized that Sifuna must assemble a broader, more strategic team to operate effectively across the country if he intends to pursue national leadership.
