Francis Lawrence provides update on Netflix BioShock film

Director Francis Lawrence has provided an update on the Netflix live-action BioShock film, stating that the screenplay is in an advanced stage. Lawrence expressed optimism about the project's direction, noting that the team is close to finalizing a version of the script that feels right.

The development of the adaptation has faced delays due to Hollywood strikes and Lawrence’s existing commitments, including the upcoming film The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. While a firm production start date has not been announced, the project remains active.

Producer Roy Lee previously indicated that Netflix has adjusted the project to work with a smaller budget, shifting the focus toward a more personal narrative rather than a massive spectacle. The film will be based on the original 2007 game, following the story of the character Jack in the underwater setting of Rapture. The writing team includes Michael Green and Justin Rhodes.
