Francisco Calhau: National champion launches fundraiser after serious accident

Francisco Calhau, a 21-year-old national hammer throw champion and athlete for Sporting Clube de Portugal, is hospitalized following a serious accident in a swimming pool. The accident has significantly impacted his mobility, necessitating a long process of recovery, specialized physiotherapy, and medical equipment.

A solidarity campaign has been launched via GoFundMe to support Calhau and his family. Led by entrepreneur Miguel Marreiros, the initiative aims to fund specialized treatments, mobility aids such as wheelchairs, and potential home adaptations or transportation needs required for his new reality. Calhau, who recently represented the University of Louisiana Monroe, had established himself as a top talent in the sport, recently achieving a personal best of 68.10 meters.
