Francisco Campos Wins Opening Stage of 2026 Volta a Portugal, Rui Oliveira Takes Yellow Jersey
The first stage of the 2026 Volta a Portugal, a 157‑kilometre race from Lourinhã to Queluz (near Sintra), was won by Portuguese rider Francisco Campos of Team Tavira / Crédito Agrícola. Campos outsprinted Spanish Burgos‑BH rider Daniel Cavia, with teammate Carlos Miguel Salgueiro finishing third.
UAE Team Emirates‑XRG rider Rui Oliveira crossed the line fourth but inherited the race’s leader’s yellow jersey after teammate Julius Johansen lost time on the final climbs. The stage featured mostly flat terrain with a short uphill finish, sunny conditions and light wind along the Atlantic coast.
