Francisco Carrillo Alfaro's 'El museo de los infortunios' unveiled at Mexico's San Lázaro
On 25 April 2025, the Mexican writer Francisco Carrillo Alfaro released his short‑story collection “El museo de los infortunios” during the Noche de Museos event at the Cámara de Diputados in San Lázaro. Published by Nocturlabio Ediciones, the book arranges tragic narratives into four metaphorical museum rooms – Pinacoteca, Espacio Escultórico, Exposición Temporal and Archivo Histórico – featuring tales such as a imprisoned sculptor who dies in the French Revolution, a lovesick youth, a philosophising vampire, and a 19th‑century painter seeking fame. Daniel Ramírez, director of the civil association Brújula Cultural, introduced the work, inviting attendees to explore the “paper museum” through interactive dynamics. Carrillo explained that the stories intentionally avoid happy endings, reflecting everyday misfortunes that are rarely processed easily, and noted that even seemingly hopeless narratives can end with a painful but truthful resolution.
