Cristiano Ronaldo suspended 30 days by Portuguese Football Federation

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has handed Cristiano Ronaldo a 30-day suspension and a €255 fine following his unauthorized departure from the national team training camp in late September. The disciplinary action stems from an incident in Copenhagen during the UEFA Nations League, where Ronaldo left the squad following disagreements with head coach Jorge Jesus regarding his playing time.

The FPF Disciplinary Council found the charges against the 41-year-old captain to be fully justified, noting that he intentionally committed a disciplinary infraction under Article 160 of the federation's regulations. The council noted that Ronaldo’s expressed remorse and his significant contributions to Portuguese football were considered mitigating factors in determining the minimum penalty.

Because the suspension was applied retroactively to October 1, Ronaldo is expected to complete his ban by the end of the month. He remains eligible for selection for Portugal’s upcoming international fixtures against Denmark and Wales in mid-November.
