Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca classified as fugitive from justice

Former Tamaulipas Governor Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca is considered a fugitive from justice due to an active arrest warrant, which impacts his ability to exercise political rights. This legal status was highlighted following his attempt to register for a federal deputy position through the National Action Party (PAN), a move that was blocked by the Federal Electoral Tribunal.

Andrés Norberto García Repper Fávila, the specialized prosecutor in the fight against corruption in Tamaulipas, clarified that while there is no active investigation or political persecution by the state's anti-corruption prosecutor's office, the former governor remains a fugitive because he has not appeared before the judicial authority that issued the warrant. Under Article 38 of the Constitution, citizen rights are suspended for those fleeing justice from the moment an arrest warrant is issued until the criminal action prescribes.

Additional allegations include a complaint filed before the Attorney General's Office regarding illegal fuel trafficking, also known as 'huachicol fiscal,' during his tenure as governor.
