Francisco Goya: Artworks and exhibitions explore the painter's legacy
The artistic legacy of Francisco Goya is being highlighted through both historical analysis and new exhibitions. His Pinturas Negras, or Black Paintings, consist of 14 murals painted directly onto the walls of his home in Madrid during his final years. These works, which include pieces such as Two Old Men, were created during a period of deteriorating health and following experiences with war and the Inquisition. The murals are characterized by dark colors and eerie themes, often interpreted as a form of personal therapy for the artist.
In Lleida, the Museu de Lleida has inaugurated the Volaverunt exhibition, featuring over 200 of Goya's engravings. The collection includes major series such as Los Caprichos, Los Desastres de la Guerra, Tauromaquia, and Proverbios. This itinerant exhibition, produced by the Museu de Mataró, also incorporates works from the Gelonch Viladegut collection and features contemporary interpretations by artists Irene Solà, Anna Dot, and Marcos Prior.
