Francisco Lindor wins 2026 Roberto Clemente Award
New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor has been named the winner of the 2026 Roberto Clemente Award, Major League Baseball’s premier honor for humanitarian work and community service. The Puerto Rican athlete was selected from a pool of 30 nominees representing every MLB organization.
Lindor’s philanthropic efforts include donating over $1 million to Montverde Academy to fund Lindor Hall, a facility featuring science and technology laboratories, and establishing a scholarship fund for students in need. He also launched ‘Lindor’s Leaders’ in 2026, a leadership and mental health training program for students. Additionally, Lindor has supported disaster recovery in Puerto Rico following hurricanes Maria and Fiona and worked to restore sports facilities in Caguas.
As part of the recognition, Capital One will contribute $100,000 to the SEEN Foundation, an organization Lindor and his wife, Katia, support to expand opportunities for youth. Lindor becomes the fifth Puerto Rican to receive this distinction, joining Edgar Martínez, Carlos Delgado, Carlos Beltrán, and Yadier Molina.
