Francisco Álvarez Osorio denies involvement in Valeria Márquez killing
Francisco Álvarez Osorio, a former soccer player and son of José Rodolfo Villarreal (alias ‘El R1’), has denied involvement in the killing of influencer Valeria Márquez. In an interview with journalist Luis Chaparro, Álvarez Osorio addressed the allegations following the attack that occurred on May 13, 2025, in Zapopan while Márquez was conducting a live stream from her beauty salon.
Álvarez Osorio admitted to being in the immediate vicinity of the salon on the day of the crime, stating he had visited a nearby barbershop and later returned to his apartment. He maintained that he was in constant communication with Márquez via telephone and messaging throughout the day. He claimed he learned of the shooting through a phone call from a friend rather than hearing the gunfire himself.
The suspect rejected accusations from authorities, suggesting a political motive behind the targeting of his name. He also cited media scrutiny and social media backlash as the reasons he did not attend the victim's funeral, citing fears for his physical safety.
