Francisco Pelayo Covarrubias receives PAN support for Baja California Sur governorship

Francisco Pelayo Covarrubias, a federal deputy and prospective candidate for the governorship of Baja California Sur, received formal support from the National Action Party (PAN) leadership during a plenary meeting in La Paz on August 26, 2026.

During the event, which included PAN national leader Jorge Romero Herrera and federal deputy coordinator José Elías Lixa Abimerhi, Pelayo emphasized the public desire for political alternation. He pledged to defend the integrity of the 2027 elections, stating, “We are going to protect the 2027 election with our own lives, if necessary,” referring to the protection of democratic rights rather than personal interest.

Pelayo also outlined economic proposals for the state, including a reduction of the Value Added Tax (IVA) from 16 percent to 10 percent to alleviate the economic burden on local families. He noted that he is awaiting the official resolution from the PAN National Permanent Commission to formally define his candidacy under the project titled ‘Defense of the Homeland, Family, and Liberty.’
