Francisco Vilas Boas discusses privilege and inequality

Francisco Vilas Boas, a professor with a doctorate in Law and a post-doctorate in Philosophy, is addressing the role of privilege in the fight against social inequality. In his book, ‘Eu não tenho lugar de fala – Anotações de um homem branco sobre racismo, machismo e outros preconceitos’, Boas challenges the misconception that recognizing social advantages requires silence.

Boas argues that those who do not experience systemic racism or sexism daily should not attempt to be the protagonists of these movements. Instead, he proposes that privileged individuals should act as an ‘echo’—using their position to amplify silenced voices and support the causes of marginalized groups through empathy, historical awareness, and active commitment to a more just society.
