Francisney Mercedes Escobar Soto murdered in Cúcuta, Colombia

Francisney Mercedes Escobar Soto, a 37‑year‑old Venezuelan migrant, operated a small beer shop in the El Callejón sector of Cúcuta, Colombia, where she also offered hair‑styling services and money‑transfer assistance to miners and their families. On a Sunday, a masked gunman entered the shop, asked for a soft drink and, while allegedly maintaining a video call with the alleged mastermind, opened fire, killing her instantly. She was taken by taxi to a local health centre but was pronounced dead.

Escobar left a nine‑year‑old daughter who has not yet been told of her mother’s death. Neighbours described her as helpful and well‑liked in the community. Her partner remains in shock, and relatives from Venezuela are expected to arrive to inform the child of the tragedy.
