Franco Colapinto tops Pirelli tyre test at Hungary's Hungaroring
Argentine driver Franco Colapinto stayed in Hungary during the Formula 1 hiatus to take part in Pirelli’s tyre‑testing programme at the Hungaroring. Over two days he completed 128 laps – roughly 500 km – and set the quickest time in the first free‑practice session, a 1 minute 20.371 second lap. His performance edged out Brazil’s Gabriel Bortoleto (Audi) by about 0.44 seconds and U.S. driver Jak Crawford (Aston Martin) by more than four seconds.
The tests, run with Pirelli’s C3, C4 and C5 compounds, were used by Alpine to assess tyre degradation and to fine‑tune aerodynamic elements ahead of the 2027 season. Aston Martin chose not to continue in the programme. The F1 break runs until 21 August, when the series moves to the Netherlands for the next Grand Prix.
