Franco Gabrielli addresses arrest of Youssef Siher

Franco Gabrielli, former head of the Italian Police and founder of the ‘Più uno’ political movement, has commented on the arrest of researcher Youssef Siher. Siher is suspected of being an administrator for social media pages and Telegram chats linked to the so-called ‘Movimento 17 ottobre’ (October 17 Movement).

Following recent civil unrest and clashes during protests in several cities, Gabrielli stated that it is legitimate to question whether Siher, who had previously expressed non-moderate positions, was under surveillance by security authorities. He emphasized the need for the judiciary to investigate the movement's actual role and determine if the incident is an isolated event or part of a broader threat to national security.

Gabrielli noted that while specific details are unknown, security officials must provide clarity to the public regarding whether such individuals were being monitored. He stressed the importance of not discrediting institutions during this period of investigation.
