Argentine midfielder Franco Mastantuono has joined Fiorentina on loan from Real Madrid for the 2026/27 season. The 19-year-old, who was transferred from River Plate to Real Madrid in 2025 for €45 million, sought the move to secure consistent playing time after finding it difficult to break into the competitive Madrid squad.

Despite Fiorentina not participating in European competitions this season, Mastantuono prioritized the club’s focus on youth and development over continental football. He stated, “European participation was not decisive in my decision, rather I gave priority to ambitions and opportunities.”

In recent interviews, Mastantuono reflected on his career, citing a free-kick goal against Boca Juniors during his time at River Plate as the “best moment” of his life. He is currently adapting to life and the language in Florence as he begins his tenure in Serie A.
