Franconia region hosts various festivals and Kirchweih celebrations

Various festivals and 'Kirchweih' celebrations are scheduled across the Franconia region for the weekend of September 26 and 27, 2026. Notable events include the 54th Altstadtfest in Nuremberg, featuring culinary offerings, rides, live music, and a youth fishing competition. Other regional festivities include the Herbstkirchweih in Schwabach, Michaeli-Dult in Amberg, and various local celebrations in Colmberg, Feuchtwangen, and Erlangen-Frauenaurach.

In the context of these traditional gatherings, the iconic orange beer benches used in festival tents have a specific history. Patented in 1952 by Rudolf Kurz, the design includes a folding mechanism for easy stacking. The distinctive orange color was chosen intentionally to provide a visual contrast that makes the golden-yellow color of beer appear more vibrant.
