Francophone African tax administrations adopt data science

Tax administrations in Francophone Africa are working to enhance their use of data science to better capture revenue from the growing digital economy. An workshop for the DATAFID project (Data in Tax and Customs Administrations) was held in Lomé, Togo, from May 23 to 25, 2022.

The initiative aims to improve the ability of customs and tax authorities to understand the digital economy and its impacts. For the Office Togolais des Recettes (OTR), the project is expected to automate data processing tasks and strengthen risk analysis methodologies.

The workshop brought together representatives from Côte d’Ivoire, Mauritania, Niger, and Togo. The project is implemented by Expertise France, with support from the French General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFIP), the Senegalese General Directorate of Taxes and Domains (DGID), the Foundation for International Development Research Studies (FERDI), the World Customs Organization (WCO), and the private firm NumériCité.
