Frank Gashumba challenges Ugandan pastors over miracle healing claims

Businessman Frank Gashumba has intensified his challenge to religious leaders in Uganda who claim to possess supernatural healing powers. Gashumba has offered a reward of up to Shs500 million to any pastor or prophet who can demonstrate the ability to heal a critically ill patient within a hospital setting.

In response to the challenge, several religious figures have voiced opposition. Pastor Robert Kayanja defended his ministry's miracles, while Bishop David Kiganda questioned the practice of turning faith into a public contest. Despite the backlash and concerns expressed by his wife, Patience Mutoni Malaika, Gashumba maintains that questioning these claims is a public responsibility necessary for accountability.

Pastor Isaac Rwomushana has also voiced support for Gashumba’s skepticism. Rwomushana criticized the sale of religious items—such as holy water, handkerchiefs, and apples—as a means to solicit money from believers. He further questioned practices that demand financial support from congregants for pastors' personal expenses and criticized the use of natural phenomena, such as rain, as spiritual tools.
