Frank McCourt to invest $300 million in Premier Jumping League
Frank McCourt, owner of the French football club Olympique de Marseille (OM), is investing approximately $300 million (around €260 million) into the creation of the Premier Jumping League. This new show jumping competition is scheduled to launch in 2027 and aims to professionalize the sport through a structured format featuring 16 teams.
The investment, made via McCourt Global, is intended to guarantee $300 million in prize money over the league's first three seasons. The project seeks to emulate successful sports business models by establishing a regular calendar of events and providing a framework for high-level international competition. Reports indicate that two teams have already been sold for $50 million each.
This massive investment in equestrian sports comes at a time when Olympique de Marseille is facing financial constraints and is reportedly looking to reduce its wage bill and stabilize its finances.
