Frank Moya Pons decorated by President Abinader
President Luis Abinader decorated historian Frank Moya Pons with the Order of Merit of Duarte, Sánchez and Mella, in the grade of Grand Cross, Silver Plate. The ceremony took place at the National Palace to mark the 95th anniversary of the Dominican Academy of History.
Moya Pons, a member of the Academy since 1978, has a career spanning over five decades. He has authored more than 30 books and has served as a professor and researcher at various institutions in the Dominican Republic and the United States, including Columbia University and the University of Florida. He also previously served as the Secretary of State for Environment and Natural Resources between 2000 and 2004.
During the event, President Abinader emphasized the importance of preserving history as a collective responsibility. He officially announced that the government will manage the location or construction of a new headquarters for the Dominican Academy of History to better house its collections and support academic activities.
