Frank Nazar suspended two games for illegal head check

The NHL has suspended Chicago Blackhawks forward Frank Nazar for two games without pay following an illegal check to the head of New York Islanders captain Bo Horvat. The incident occurred with approximately one and a half minutes remaining in Thursday night’s game, which the Islanders won 4-1.

Nazar was assessed a match penalty for the hit. Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the suspension will result in a financial forfeit of $68,041 based on his average annual salary.

Bo Horvat was removed from the game by concussion spotters and missed Friday’s optional practice while undergoing evaluation. Islanders coach Pete DeBoer indicated that Horvat would continue to be monitored by medical staff to determine his availability for upcoming games.
