Frank Rijkaart sworn in as acting mayor of Teylingen

Frank Rijkaart has been sworn in as the acting mayor of Teylingen, effective September 1, 2026. He succeeds Carla Breuer, who is transitioning to a role as acting mayor in Zoeterwoude.

Rijkaart brings extensive administrative experience to the position, having previously served as a deputy for South Holland province and as the outgoing Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations in the Schoof cabinet. His background also includes nine years on the Bodegraven-Reeuwijk municipal council, service in the Royal Netherlands Army, and 23 years with the police.

In discussing his move to local government, Rijkaart noted that while his ministerial role was the political ‘Champions League’, he missed direct contact with society. He expressed a desire to be a visible and approachable leader within the local communities of Sassenheim, Voorhout, and Warmond, rather than governing from an ‘ivory tower’.

The official procedure to appoint a permanent, crown-appointed mayor is expected to begin in October, with a new permanent official likely to take office in April 2027.
