Frank Rose departs NNSA leadership following accusations

Frank Rose, the Senate-confirmed second-in-command at the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), saw his career end following accusations made by Kathryn “Kate” Hewitt. Hewitt previously served as a research assistant to Rose at the Brookings Institution between 2018 and 2019.

While working at the NNSA, Hewitt was part of a small public affairs office. After a detail to the Department of Defense, she did not return to her NNSA position following Rose's insistence that she return to her original role. The investigation into Rose's conduct involves questions regarding reports made during his tenure at Brookings and his subsequent leadership at the NNSA, which oversees approximately 60,000 employees and contractors.
